As the autumn approaches, the Lexington Farmers’ Market invites shoppers to take partake of the many fun, healthy and delicious offerings scheduled in the latter half of the 2006 season.

Of special note is that on Tuesday, Sept. 19, the location of the Farmers’ Market will be shifted to Hastings Park, adjacent to the gazebo at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Worthen Road, due to town elections. The market will return to its regular spot in front of the School Administration building the following Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Other items of special interest scheduled throughout the fall include:

Sept. 12: Tim Mann: Singer-songwriter and guitarist Mann has been performing in the New England area since 1996. Originally from New York, he has produced a catalog of material that combines a love of traditional music with a cutting edge lyricism driven by strong imagery and a keen sense of melodic invention. (5 to 6:30 p.m.)

Sept. 19: The 2nd Annual LFM Tomato Fest will take place on the 19th, with vendors offering samples and special recipes using a wide variety of heirloom and regional varieties! This was the market’s most popular initiative in 2005 - don’t miss it!

Also, Larry Unger, a full time musician since 1984, Unger plays guitar, banjo, and bass and has presented a diverse range of musical performances at contra dances, Scottish dances, waltzes, dance weekends, dance camps, festivals, and concerts all across the United States and in Canada, France, Scotland, Denmark, and Sweden. He’s one of the busiest musicians around, playing for more than 150 dances every year. (5 to 6:30 p.m.)

Oct. 3: Johanna Hurley: For the last 30 years, Hurley has been playing singing her guitar, and entertaining all those around her. She picked up a guitar at age 13, and has never looked back!

Oct. 17: Tim Rowell: Rowell has been playing banjo for more than 30 years. Heavily influenced as a young lad by Pete Seeger and a whole bunch of wonderful musicians from the Hudson River Valley, he eventually discovered a deep affection for southern Appalachian string band music. You can catch Tim playing around town with his old-time string band, Jubilee Mule.

Oct. 31: Halloween at the market: Lots of fun for the entire family with costumes, silly tricks and festive treats all around!

Be sure to stop by the Market Managers’ Tent each Tuesday to say hello and find out more about the fun things in store throughout the autumn!

The Lexington Farmers’ Market runs each Tuesday afternoon through the end of October from 2 to 6:30 p.m., rain or shine, at the intersection of Massachusetts and Fletcher Avenues in Lexington Center.
