EAT IN ACT OUT
AUGUST
1, 2:00-6:30 Lexington Farmers’ Market
|
|

|
Lexington,
Ma. Tuesday August 1st, 2:00-6:30 at the corners
of Mass Ave and Fletcher
in Lexington Center, The Lexington Farmers’ Market will be
participating in a nationwide event called EAT IN ACT OUT. It’s
part of the second annual BLAST
Eat In, Act Out Week, in which people and communities around the world
are joining together to discover and celebrate the importance of
eating and enjoying locally grown foods. The
message: Eat In. That is, please join
young people across the nation in eating foods grown in the community
and prepared healthfully and with care. |
|
You can improve your
body, your family, our economy, and our environment. The
purpose of the event is to raise awareness
of healthy eating habits, and the importance of eating locally grown
foods.
The
twist to this particular program, however, is that everything is run
by teenagers! We get to plan, advertise for, and actually run whatever
project we choose to promote eating healthier and from more local
farmers. What we have chosen to do is to prepare food using locally
grown produce, and to sample it at the Lexington Farmers market on
Tuesday August 1st.
|

|
|
We will also have a contest! People can submit answers to some
interesting questions that we will have prepared and whoever comes
closest to the correct answer will win a prize! The contest will be
ongoing, all day, and we will sample food for about an hour and a half
in the middle of day. Mark the date on your calendar! August 1st
Tuesday. It will be fun, and informative!
The
purpose of the Lexington Farmers’ Market is to provide fresh, native
produce directly from farmers to residents. The Market is working to
help the local farming industry to remain vibrant, to educate the
community about healthy eating, to maintain a sustainable environment,
and to provide a social experience that helps build community.
Eat
In, Act Out week is initiated by BLAST, the global network of youth
and adults working together to build sustainable food systems.
BLAST stands for building Local Agricultural Systems Today with the
leaders of tomorrow. It is a program of the Food Project, the
innovative organization that, since 1991, has provided youth
leadership opportunities through sustainable agriculture, and produced
healthy food for residents in cities and suburbs. More
information can be found www.thefoodproject.org/blast.
